PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Guadalajara has many different city bus companies, ranging from very crude and poorly maintained buses for about one peso, to very comfortable, well maintained buses with air conditioning and televisions for about six pesos per trip. Taxis are also very inexpensive, costing from 10 - 30 pesos to go anywhere within the city.

To enjoy simple, trouble-free public transportation, take the following precautions:

  1. If it is convenient, ask someone from your host family to escort you to the bus stop on the first day. Some hosts ride the bus with the student the first day to show their student where to get off.

  2. Make sure you have small change (10 pesos or less) before getting on the bus.

  3. Be prepared. Write down and carry your host family's telephone number and address. Keep some money with you in case you need to take a taxi.
